Archived Updates - 2004

2 March 2005 Moved old archives onto a separate page so this one isn't so cumbersome! Both the dress and camicia are finished now, although I haven't got photographs of them assembled or being worn - next week perhaps. I've updated the dress and camicia diary and have included some photographs of the 'in progress' work. The choice I have now is whether to save this for the Realm of Venus December showcase or go with my instinct and make something a bit later and more accurate... 13 February 2005 Big apologies - the site will be updated at the end of this week without fail. I am nearly finished the Italian but have a college deadline for EVERYTHING this tuesday - I shouldn't even be typing this! 5 January 2005 Finally updated the Ghirlandaio page but no pictures yet. I have to finish a cassock for this weekend but needed to update the site.
17 November 2004 The camicia page has been updated to reflect progress (huh!) so far. I've also managed to take a few photos of the bodice for the gamurra but don't have time today to put them up. It's all coming together though, perhaps not in the way I'd like. :-) 27 October 2004 Two cassocks finished! I am seriously behind on the camicia (despite great info from the V&A) and haven't started the gamurra, which will be 'designed' by me i.e. a bit less authentic than usual. I can't help it, I have to use my wonderful new Janome 6500P! SITE NEWS: bibliography page is still empty, but I'm reading fast! Also started camicia page, accessed from Ghirlandaio page. I will add photographs and detailed notes from my visit to the V&A in December. Finally, I've given the site a new look by lightening the background which I hope makes the text easier to read. 14 October 2004 The Mac dress has ground to a halt!! Although I will need it in about three weeks, the Ghirlandaio camicia has taken over, along with two cassocks I'm making. I will put up a page on the camicia at the weekend, since I got a great email from the V&A yesterday with some very useful information on an extent garment.

This is complicated because I have a real deadline for the Florentine garb! It has to be finished in about 12 weeks, and will consist of an authentically hand-sewn and linen/silk camicia, machine sewn gamurra, made from moire 'silk' mystery fabric and brocade sleeves, as well as a hand-made manuscript 'book' of sewing samples for the City & Guilds course requirements. Oy! 6 September 2004 After a long break - sewing vestments and being in Norway on holiday! - I am returning to my Mac garb. I am also starting a college course in Historic Heirlooms tomorrow so will update the site again tomorrow night. Looks like I'll get to work on my Ghirlandaio dress at college, if the course goes ahead...
26 June 2004 Still flat-felling the seams on my green Maciejowski bible gown!! I don't think it'll ever be finished. On the plus side, that's because I'm busy making my first cassock (for a monk-to-be in the Scottish Borders). It is a classic Cretan pattern, causing me much huffing and tearing out of hair. Off to Norway very soon so no updates for about three weeks.
